New Building Project Costs Increase By 25%

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 15, 2022

Final costs for the new library building were presented on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Addison Township Public Library New Building Committee meeting. This total is no longer an estimate or a projection. The established total for site preparation and new building construction is now $1.78M. This represents a 25% increase over projections.

Bids based on finalized project specifications were submitted by contractors on June 30, 2022. This was compiled by The Alan Group, who are the library’s construction management firm. Library Board President James Baldiga commented that they anticipated a cost increase, but not to this extent.

Project line items with exceptional increases include:

  • Electrical: 84% increase over projections
  • Masonry: 110% increase over projections

James Ratliff, construction manager of The Alan Group, attributes the increases to extensive construction market pressure since the conceptual budget in 2019.

The Library Board will meet the week of July 18th to discuss these developments in the project’s total cost. Fundraising efforts originally generated 86% of the expected funds needed. With the current figures, the library is actually at 70% of their fundraising goal. The difference is expected to be made up through a construction loan.

Addison Township Board of Trustees Contributes $128,000.00 to Library New Building Fund

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 21, 2022

On Monday April 18, 2022, at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Addison Township Board of Trustees, the Trustees voted unanimously to contribute $128,000.00 to the Library’s New Building Fund.

The Library Board was thrilled upon hearing the news. “This contribution is a further indication of the community’s support for our project and will directly reduce the planned construction loan needed to complete project funding,” said James Baldiga, Library Board President.

When announcing the contribution, Township Supervisor Bruce Pearson noted, “The Township Board is very supportive of using $128,000.00 of the Federal ARPA money for the Library.  That, combined with the $500,000.00 from Congress will make a huge contribution to our Library’s construction project.”

The Library’s New Building Committee continues to work with the architects to refine the plan for the new building.  Plans for a ground-breaking this Summer are also in the works.

Addison Township Public Library to Receive $500,000 Federal Grant to Build New Library

March 11, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. Senate Passes Historic FY 2022 Omnibus Spending Bill

Last night the United States Senate voted 68 – 31 to approve the FY 2022 Omnibus Spending Bill. President Biden is expected to sign it into law in the coming days.

Included in that Bill is a request for $500,000.00 to go toward the construction of Addison Township’s first Library building.

It’s been an incredible honor to have had our project chosen for this funding. Not all of the “Community Funded Projects” brought before the Senate received all of the funding which was requested. Ours did. According to Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin — “our project made the final cut based on the strength of our application and the broad support shown by the community.” We expect to receive the funds within 6-months.

Work will begin on the new library as soon as possible.

December 17, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On December 2, 2021 the U.S. House and Senate approved a Continuing Resolution to extend the deadline for ratification of the 2022 Federal Budget.  The President signed it on December 3rd. The 2022 Federal budget includes the Appropriations Bill which the Addison Township Library’s “Community Funded Project” is a part of.  The new deadline to approve the budget is February 18, 2022.

Previously, the budget was scheduled to be approved by the end of December 2021.

Here is a link to the complete list of all “Community Funded Projects” in the Bill.

It’s an incredible honor to have had our project chosen for this funding. We remain hopeful that our project, along with all of the other Community Funded projects remain in the Appropriations bill. Funding in full or in part helps us reach our goal to build the first community owned library facility in the history of Addison Township, thus powering our potential to improve literacy, education and technology for the whole community.
